Premier League Review

Premier League Review

Lets start off with the big game in league this weekend, the Manchester derby. Both teams came into this match on the back of wins in the Champions League. Man City maintained their impressive home form after a comfortable 4-1 win over rivals Man Utd. City have a 100% home record and that was the first goal they have conceded at the Etihad. United fell to their second consecutive away defeat, after losing to Liverpool on their last away trip. It was clear on early in the game that United would miss top scorer Robin Van Persie and City capitalised on this with Aquero (scoring twice) putting in a great display. Other goals came from Toure and Nasri with Rooney scoring a late consolation.

Arsenal jumped to the top of the table with an easy 3-1 win at home against Stoke. Since losing the first game of the season, Arsenal have won all 4 games. Stoke's 3 game unbeaten run came to a very tame end. Arsenal opened the scoring through top scorer Ramsey, but stoke levelled with Cameron's first of the season. Also scoring their first goals of the season Mertesacker and Sagna wrapped the points up for the London club.

Tottenham went 2nd after a late win in Wales at Cardiff. It's a North London 1-2 at the top of the table but Tottenham where made to wait for the win. The away side dominated the game but it took until injury time for Paulinho to net the winner and his first Premier League goal. Tottenham have won 4out of 5 games this season . The only defeat was against top of the table Arsenal. Cardiff looked to be heading for a 3rd straight draw until that late goal and drop to 16th in the league.

Chelsea are 4th after defeating Fulham 2-0. Goals from Oscar and Mikel (his first league goal in 185 appearances). This was a much needed win for Chelsea as it's been exactly 1 month since they last won a game. Fulham have not won since the opening game of the season and slip into the relegation zone.

Liverpool slip from top to 5th after going down 1-0 at home to Southampton. Since starting with 3 1-0 wins Liverpool have not won or kept a clean sheet since. Southampton won thanks to a goal from Lovren. The Saints climb to 7th and are unbeaten in 2 with only 1 league defeat this season.

Everton are 6th after an entertaining game against West Ham at Upton Park. Twice West Ham took the lead through Morrison and then Noble (pen) only for Baines to level up both times with superb Free Kicks. West Ham had Noble sent off and Everton won the game through Lukaku's first for the club. Everton are the only unbeaten team in the league this season, whilst West Ham drop to 15th and have no league win since the opening game of the season.

Swansea are 9th after a 2-0 away win at Crystal Palace. After an impressive win at Valencia in the Europa League a confident Swansea carried that form into this game. Goals from Michu and Dyer were enough to see of struggling Palace. The Swans are unbeaten in 3 games and in the top half of the table whilst Palace are suffering in 19th and have lost 4 out of 5 games this season.

Hull won at 3-2 Newcastle to move to 11th. Twice Newcastle went ahead through Remy, but goals from Brady, Elmohamady and a stunning strike from Aluko sealed the win. Hull got their first win of the season and the first time they have sored 3 this season. Newcastle are 12th after their first defeat since the opening game.

Aston Villa are 13th after a 1-0 away at Norwich. Kozak's strike was enough to end Villa's 3 game losing run. All Villa's points have been away from home this season. Norwich drop to 17th after a second successive defeat and end their unbeaten home start.

Sunderland stay bottom after a 3-0 defeat at West Brom. As a result of this game, Sunderland sacked manager Paolo Di Canio after only 13 games in charge. Sunderland remain the only team without a win this season and are already 3 point adrift. Goals from Sessegnon, Ridgwell and Amalfitano gave the home side a first win of the season.
